GISSMATH Competition is an annual Mathematics Competition Programme organized for pupils in primary schools by Grundtvig International Secondary School, Oba, Anambra State.
The competition from inception was intended to recognize outstanding primary schools in Mathematics in Anambra State. However, within three years, the scope of participating schools has extended to leading primary schools in South East and South South geo-political zones of the country.
Stakeholders believe that the programme which is aimed at encouraging the interest of pupils in the learning of mathematics, the driver of science and technology, is already improving the performance of pupils in public examinations in Mathematics in the state.
Teaching and Learning Mathematics Made Easy in Grundtvig International Secondary School
The role of Science and Mathematics in the development of technology cannot be over-emphasized. Therefore, the primary purpose of the competition is to catch the future mathematicians young and assist them to develop their talents, so that they can meaningfully contribute their quotas to the development of our country.
The Teaching and learning of Mathematics has been made easy at Grundtvig International Secondary School. The School has worked out an answer to the problem of Mathematics; the three divisions of Mathematics: Algebra, Geometry and Business Maths are taught as three different subjects by different teachers.
The GISSMATH Programme has enabled the school to inculcate this unique method of teaching Mathematics and its philosophy of “Maths made easy” to those primary schools who have participated in the competition.
