Construction of the ‘Obi’ Hostel Block

Following the School’s over subscription last year and the wonderful encouragement from parents, work commenced earlier this year on the construction of the ‘obi’ hostel block for the Nelson Mandela, Mahatma Gandhi, and Albert Einstein Houses to the delight of students. The building is scheduled to be completed by the end of July 2017. Already, Nnamdi Azikiwe, Mother Teresa, and Rosa Parks Houses have their own obi blocks.

The ongoing construction is part of the original concept and design of the School’s student accommodation with salutary influences from our traditional setting recognised to enhance good communal living. Each cluster of three houses (‘umunna’) has its obi block which is sited in a way to create a (village) square (‘mbala’) right in the centre of the cluster of houses.

The ongoing construction is part of the original concept and design of the School’s student accommodation with salutary influences from our traditional setting recognised to enhance good communal living.

This design not only makes for more effective supervision and control of students, but, importantly, in line with our traditional African values, it helps to foster an environment where each student can be his/her brother’s/sister’s keeper.

We use this opportunity to once again appreciate the seasoned consultants, Mr G.S.A. Ifediora (1938-2011), Mr. E.O. Madukaife (1933-2007) and Engr G. C. Amobi, estate surveyor, architect and structural engineer respectively, who conceived and designed our lovely school campus and the buildings in a way to ensure it remains a home away from home and conducive for learning.
