Grundtvig International Secondary School is owned by the Grundtvig Movement of Nigeria, a non-profit non-govenmental organisation (NGO) registered by the Federal Government of Nigeria under the Land (Perpetual Succession) Act Cap. 98. The school was founded in the year 1998 by Dr. Kachi E. Ozumba.
The curriculum and teaching are inspired by the philosophy of “Education for Life”. We equip students to live lives useful and satisfactory to themselves, their communities & the nation. This is based on our rich culture and the philosophy of N.F.S. Grundtvig whose ideas have also given rise to the Danish folk high school and Efterskole.
It is a residential school for boys and girls. The school campus is on ten hectares of beautifully landscaped and securely walled property. It is a community of its own with staff quarters, students’ hostels, classrooms, workshops and administrative block. It also has a water borehole and stand-by generator.
If the school really is to be an educational institution for the benefit of life, it must first of all make neither education nor itself the goal but the requirements of life… - N.F.S. Grundtvig (1783-1872)
“This is the only school of its type east of the Niger.”
His Excellency, Dr. Alex Ekwueme.
“Yes, it is an international school really because the programmes are quite rigorous and the children well catered for. We need to give the children the type of knowledge they require.” - Prof. Barth Nnaji.“Immigrants’ journeys to America have long been inspired by educational opportunities for children.”
“I do not see why a child that has studied in this environment – the kind of laboratories I have seen, the kind of school curriculum I have been privileged to also know: Agricultural science, Home economics and everything practicalised—why that child will not be a star or super-star.”
- His Excellency Dr. Chris Ngige.
